Hokomanga o te Pō

Kia kaha ki te kōrero Māori. Give the Māori language ago! This week the Rotorua Night Market is celebrating Te Wiki o te reo Māori – Māori Language Week. On the Main Stage (Te Manawa end) we are showcasing a range of talented cultural performers throughout the evening.

Whakarewarewa – The Living Māori Village concert group will start the show just after 5pm with some traditional waiata.

Following this we have fantastic performances, choreographed by Turanga Merrito, from Lakes Performing Arts Centre including Matahiapo Maxwell, Ruaeo Te Moni, Rehua Selwyn, Aroha Crown and Danielle Selwyn. Te Rangihakahaka kura will perform followed by local aria students singing ‘Hareruia’ and then African Racco drumming. Talented te reo Maori musician and teacher, Terrence O’Brien, will entertain the crowds until the end of the market.

A special ‘whare kai’ area will be located near the stage where vendors will be selling delicious kai. In the centre of the market will be reo Māori activities, colouring and crafts. Have fun building a whare, test your reo Māori knowledge and be in to win great prizes.

This week is also national Electric Car Week and the Night Market sponsors Unison will be here with a great range of electric cars to look at in Te Manawa. How the waka has evolved! Kōrero Māori.
